Format and Operation

All matches will be best two of three games. The first two parts of this tournament will be Round Robin play.   The last part of the tournament will be single elminination between the top two players.

The match should start at the scheduled time and date.   At the scheduled start time each player will be allowed 5-minutes of warm-up.   (So figure another 12 to 15 minutes to the match time for this.)

An optional break, not to exceed fifteen minutes, will be allowed between games two and three.

The games will be limited by innings, and points.   The round robin play will be to 10 points per game with a 25 inning limit.   The single elimination portion will play to 12 points per game with a 30 inning limit.

Each game will end when the required number of points is reached (first one there on points wins).   If the inning limit is reached both players will have an equal number of innings.   It will be possible to have tie games as well as tie matches.

If a game ends on innings then the progress of the players will determine who won.   For wxample, if an "A" got 7 points and a "B" got 5 points then "B" would win as 5/8 (0.625) is greater than 7/12 (0.583).

In case of a tie in matches won the tie breakers will be:

  1. Head to head play.
  2. Round Robin, Points per Inning (by 5% margin).
  3. Best Match, Points per Inning (by 5% margin).
  4. Highest run.
  5. High run average.
  6. Flip a coin.

Players, please arrange to have somebody keep score for your match.   (It will allow you to better concentrate on your game.)

NOTES:

  • Clean the table before each match for consistent conditions (like having sufficient speed for five or more cushions).
  • Numbers in parenthesis are starting scores per game.
  • If called on innings play will be on an equal inning basis.
  • Make every effort to play at scheduled time for those who may be interested in watching the match.
  • If you reschedule be sure to update the schedule sheet.

For a handicapped (cross-division) game the spot will be prorated to determine how much of the spot is used in determining winner of unfinished games.   Use normal rounding.

For cross-division (handicapped) matches the starting scores (in games to twelve points) will be:

    1. A vs A     0 - 0
    2. A vs B     0 - 4
    3. A vs C     0 - 7
    4. B vs B     4 - 4
    5. B vs C     4 - 7
    6. C vs C     7 - 7

If a handicapped game is tied the tie will be broken by:

    1. seeing who reached the final score earliest (by inning)
    2. high run (prorated)

In case of a tie in games the match will be won based on:

    1. Total points.
    2. High run.
    3. High run average.
