FIRST ANNUAL BILLIARD / SNOOKER / STRAIGHT BETTER OVERALL SHOOTER TOURNAMENT Sponsored by N.M.I.M.T. Billy Aardd's Club. Friday through Sunday April 13th, 14th, & 15th.
This tournament is being conducted to give Tech's better shooters a chance to come out and show us what they can do. The 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place finishers will have their names placed on a plaque which is to remain in the game room (or wherever the pool tables reside) until such time as it gets lost.
There is no entry fee for this tournament, however the field will be limited to 10 entries. If there are more than 10 entries the Tournament Director (TD) will choose the better 10 players to compete in the tournament. This restriction is due to time constraints. Since we are time limited it will unfortunately be necessary to limit all sets to 50-minutes. In case of a tie, sudden death on an equal inning basis will be played.
Players will be seeded by their known ability. Failing that they will be placed in the remaining slots by random draw.
The format of the tournament will be DOUBLE ELIMINATION on a match basis. Each match will consist of the best 2 of 3 sets. There will be a 10-minute break between sets (i.e. all sets will start on the hour).
The first set will be one game of Progressive Red-ball played to 20-points (a score of 12 - 0 will be considered a shutout).
The second set will be the best 2 of 3 games of American Snooker, played with a short rack of reds (10 reds).
If the match players are tied after the first two sets then 14.1 Continuous to 60-points will be played as the third, and tie breaking, set.
All participants are expected to know all the rules of the games being played, the general rules for both billiards and pocket billiards, and the rules and regulations governing tournament play. The player chair rule will be enforced. During a match the referee will be the only person allowed to handle the balls. All applicable rules will be posted.
Sign-up is open immediately and will close Wednesday the 11th at 8:00 P.M. The schedule for the tournament will be posted no later then NOON the following day. See the TD before the entry deadline if you absolutely can't play on Friday night. (First round games are the only ones that may get rescheduled, and then only if possible). If you enter this tournament please plan to commit to the times you are scheduled to play.
Forfeits due to late- or no-shows will be in force. A forfeit of the first set will be declared if a player is not ready to play by 10 past the hour. A forfeit of the first game of the second set will be declared if a player is not ready before 10 past the hour. If that player is not ready to play the second game of the second set by 20 past the hour then the second set is forfeit. The third set will be forfeit if a player is not ready to play by 15 past the hour.
Choice of break for each set will be established by lag. In the second set the choice of break belongs to the looser of the previous game of that set.
