Handicapped 14.1 League
Rio Rancho, NM.
Scoring Legend and Examples.

NOTE: That a scratch is a foul where the cue ball leaves the playing surface and does not return to it.  Hence a major foul can result from any permutation of scratches and other fouls.

NOTE: A Bad Break (BB) is not a foul and so does not contribute towards a major foul.

NOTE: For there to be a foul (F) or scratch (C) on the opening break it must happen after the requirements of the opening break have been met.  That means the cue ball must contact the rack and then make it to a cushion plus two balls from the rack must also make it to a cushion so that a scratch or foul is recorded (otherwise it is a Break Violation).

To count the cue ball as touching a cushion it must touch the nose of the cushion (over the bed of the table).  The cushion facing at the opening of a pocket does not count as a cushion.

NOTE: The score keeper will mark any shot that they deem to be safety as such (be it an: S, SC, or SF), whether the shot was called as a safety or not.  An example could be a call to bank the 6-ball cross-side and then upon execution it's seen that the shot was not actually an attempt to score.

Symbol Meaning
| A half-height vertical mark (by hand) for a ball legally
sunk.  These are grouped into fives by drawing a
diagonal line, as the fifth count, through the preceding
four vertical marks.  (On electronic copy these vertical
strokes are displayed as digits.)
/ A full-height slash.  It marks an end of inning.
. A vertically centered dot.  It marks who the shooter
is after the 14th ball of the rack is sunk.
: Used instead of '.' at the end of a rack when multiple balls
are sunk on the last stroke and no object balls remain on
the table  (indicates 15 balls scored this rack,
tallying both players, is okay).
BB Marks a break violation  (bad break) — the 2-point
penalty on an illegal break as per the opening shot of the
the game.  May also happen on breaks shots following
a major foul.
C A scratch — a 1-point penalty (see note above this table).
F A foul — a 1-point penalty.
S A safety.
SC A scratch on a safety attempt — a 1-point penalty.
SF A foul on a safety attempt — a 1-point penalty.
(F#) Shows number, #, of points deducted for a "major" foul penalty
(as would happen following three successive fouls).
The minimum number of points for a major foul is 15.
(D#) Shows number, #, of points deducted for a "deliberate" foul
(e.g. deliberately touching the CB with other than the
tip of the stick to take an intentional foul).
(R#) Shows number, #, of points deducted for a "referee" penalty
(this is where the score keeper / referee can assess
a penalty for, say, unsportsmanlike conduct)
(RQ) Shows a referee declared forfeit  (e.g. for unsportsmanlike
conduct).
Q Shows a forfeit  (a person can only forfeit during their
turn -- before the end of their turn actually -- so as not
to deprive their opponent a shot at run stats).
